Palm Springs is so synonymous with Hollywood and celebrity life that stars have flooded this oasis town since before it was even incorporated as a city in 1938.

With its many golf courses, ideal climate and proximity to Hollywood, many celebrities have enjoyed taking time in this relaxing scenic town in the shadow of the San Jacinto Mountains.

Considering that, we’ll look at the many celebrities calling Palm Springs home.

What Celebrities Have Had Palm Springs Homes?

The connection Palm Springs has had to Hollywood began in the 1920s when movie stars such as Janet Gaynor and Charlie Farrell started to realize that this idyllic haven was a welcome retreat from the prying eyes and media frenzy of Tinseltown.

Once Greta Garbo, Robert Taylor and Cary Grant were also seen frequently in Palm Springs during the 1930s, it was obvious that this wasn’t just a trend.

This encouraged many more celebrities to purchase Palm Springs real estate, seeing the many benefits of living in this picturesque town.

Eventually, Bob Hope, Kirk Douglas, Lucille Ball, Liberace, Cary Grant, Jack Benny and nearly all the members of the Rat Pack were just a few of the many faces that could be seen casually walking the streets of this town.

What Impact Have Celebrities Had on Palm Springs?

Many of these celebrities are so memorable to the history of Palm Springs that they’ve had streets named after them, such as Jack Benny Drive and Bing Crosby Drive in Rancho Mirage and Dinah Shore Drive, going from Palm Springs to Palm Desert

Some have even gone on to have successful political careers, such as Charlie Farrell and Sonny Bono, who served as the 5th and 16th mayors of Palm Springs, respectively.

The memory of Sonny Bono carries on to this day with the annual Palm Springs International Film Festival.

He also created the Copyright Term Extension Act (sometimes called the Sonny Bono Act), extending the term of copyrights and giving more power to artists.

What Celebrities Currently Have Palm Springs Homes?

While Palm Springs may not have quite the same amount of celebrities using this zip code today, many celebrities still have purchased homes in the area.

Leonardo DiCaprio may be the most famous A-lister to own Palm Springs real estate — but you’re invited!

When he’s not staying there, the Titanic star rents it out to those looking to get a taste of celebrity life.

While it’s unclear if 44th US President Barack Obama lives in Palm Springs, he loves spending time in Rancho Mirage

The former president has been seen time after time in Rancho Mirage, casually mingling with the locals and catching his tee time at the Thunderbird Country Club.

The Kardashians also apparently have a home in a gated community in the beautiful mountain area of La Quinta, adding to the long list of celebrities that have owned Palm Springs real estate.
