The Mesa Real Estate

Located in the Palm Canyon Mesa, this unique community was established in a small cove that provides the neighborhood with protection from the desert winds. The Mesa features a distinct collection of high-end architectural homes that are secluded, yet only minutes away from downtown Palm Springs.

The Mesa was established in the early 1920s by Edmond Fulford, a Los Angeles-based businessman who envisioned The Mesa as an exclusive gated community that could be entered through a common main entrance. The lowest hills of the San Jacinto Mountains were the perfect setting, as the community would remain private and be shielded from the arid desert winds. Fulford's vision was never fulfilled; however, the historic gatehouse between South Palm Canyon and El Portal remains today to commemorate his dream.

The natural landscape and small, winding street of this neighborhood have attracted many famous celebrities over the years. Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, Barry Manilow, Suzanne Somers, and Natalie Wood & Robert Wagner have all had homes in this enclave of eclectic homes. Even the former mayor of Palm Springs Sonny Bono also called this neighborhood his home.

The Mesa Community Lifestyle and Amenities

The Mesa has always been a popular location in Palm Springs. Its popularity dates back over a century when pioneers settled in the area.

Located nearby, the Tahquitz Canyon loop is a short but spiritual two-mile hike along the peaceful Tahquitz River, leading up to the spectacular sixty-foot Tahquitz Falls. The canyon plays a particularly important role in the creation of Native American myth. Legend has it that the powerful shaman, Tahquitz, was banished to the canyon after misusing his power. It is said that his spirit still lives in this canyon, with strange rumblings heard deep within the San Jacinto Mountains as he stomps about the canyon.

On the eastern edge of The Mesa is the historic Moorten Botanical Garden, which showcases a variety of three thousand desert plants, many of them museum specimens. This intimate garden remains a family-owned and operated business and even sells plants similar to the ones that are featured, which is perfect for adding your own personal touch to your new home in The Mesa, Palm Springs.
