4 Things to Know About the Tahquitz Canyon Waterfall Hike

1. About The Trail

Discover the beautiful Tahquitz Canyon trail! Start your journey from the visitor's center, and prepare to ascend 350 feet in elevation. The trail might be steep and rocky, but don't worry; plenty of rock steps will help you along the way. Remember to maintain your balance and be ready to take steps as high as 12-15 inches.

It is a 2-mile loop trail that offers a moderately challenging route. As one of the area's most popular spots for hiking and running, you're likely to encounter fellow nature lovers. The hike is worth it to experience nature and the beautiful 60-foot waterfall! So, grab your gear and get ready for an adventure in the great outdoors!

Remember: This canyon has limited shade, and no restrooms or water fountains are available. But fear not! With the proper clothes, sun protection, a water bottle, and sturdy hiking boots or sneakers, you'll have a wonderful experience.

2. Fees

Before starting the trail from the visitor center, you must pay your admission fee. Don't worry, it isn't much! Once you have your proof of payment wristband, you'll go through an excellent gift shop area before reaching the trailhead.

Get your day hike tickets from the Tahquitz Canyon Visitor Center (located right at the trailhead). You can also swing by the Palm Springs Visitor Center to pay for admission.

  • Adults – $15 (as of 2023)
  • Kids (6-12) – $7
  • Military – Free

Remember to stop by the theater for an educational film. They have an exciting video called "Legend of Tahquitz" that you won't want to miss. Also, check out the exciting display of educational and cultural artifacts!

3. Hours

It's open every day from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., but make sure you start the trail by 3:30 p.m. to have enough time. From July 5 to September 30, it's only open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. If you prefer a guided experience, Ranger-led hikes are available daily.

4. Hike and Learn

As you make your way along the two-mile loop, get ready to discover ten excellent points of interest! You can get all the information you need when your journey starts at the visitor's center. Along the way, you'll come across some extraordinary landmarks that tell the story of this area. Keep an eye out for the large boulders named and dedicated to the leaders and noble people of the Native Cahuilla tribe. They were the first to settle this fantastic land.
