We have all heard the saying that "home is where you make it." This is exactly right, but a home is also what you make of it. Whether you're in my real estate area of Palm Springs or another city known for its stylish homes, the features of a home represent you and how it makes you feel at home. Over the years, many of us have forgotten what that feels like, particularly if you just recently moved into a new home. It's easy to forget that you need to update your home, especially if you just moved in. While some of the design ideas might be liked by you, they have been replaced with features that not only look better, but provide function in the home.

You may think the Palm Springs Cultural Center is just the Camelot Theater and the movies on the marquee, but it’s much more than that. Founded in 2007 by local philanthropists Ric and Rozene Supple, the Cultural Center has grown to not only include the Palm Springs International Film Festival, but a speaker’s series, book clubs and the vintage and farmer’s markets.
Palm Springs, centrally located in the Southwest, is within driving distance of several metropolitan areas, and the airport (PSP) provides great service to the Bay Area, the Northwest, and Phoenix. And that makes it easy for all your friends and family to visit you all year long.
Living in Palm Springs gives you the opportunity to attend any number of local events and festivals without the costs of hotels and transportation. And there are really too many to choose from, especially in season from January through May. But more and more attractions are coming to the desert in the summer. August is now the scene for Splash House parties at several local, hip hotels, like the Ace and Saquaro. And rates drop at many gay resorts sponsoring splash parties during the summer months.
Look around. Palm Springs is booming. The last several years have brought new hotels, restaurants, clubs and housing to Palm Springs. Downtown is undergoing a revitalization, and the Uptown Design District is hopping with hip shops and cafes.
If you’re looking for a home in Palm Springs, and you’re not from the southwest, the landscaping around here may be unfamiliar, even confusing. On the one hand, you’ll see lush, Mediterranean gardens, with green lawns, tropical-looking palms, bougainvillea, olive and citrus trees. On the other, lots of rock and gravel, some spikey-looking things, and a few trees that don’t appear to have much going on in the leaf or shade department. And if you’re into gardening, trying to figure out what to do with your new yard can be intimidating.
If you have a dog, you’ll see that Palm Springs is a very welcoming place for your best friend. If you don’t have a dog, you may just decide to get one (or two) after you settle in to your new home here.
